Melbourne 24 September 2026 – Bayer and Australian agtech company InFarm are working together to bring PreVisionTM to Australian growers, combining technology and agronomy to deliver more effective weed management.

Weeds are costing Australian grain and cotton growers more than $4.4 billion each year, making them one of the largest and most persistent challenges in modern farming. With increasing herbicide resistance, rising input costs and more complex seasonal conditions, growers are under growing pressure to manage weeds more effectively and sustainably.

PreVision is a solution that uses drone imagery and artificial intelligence (AI) to identify weeds within a paddock and generate tractor-ready prescription maps, enabling growers to target weeds more effectively, supporting efficient use of crop protection products.

The collaboration combines InFarm's expertise in AI and digital agriculture with Bayer's crop science expertise and experience bringing innovation to Australian growers.

“Weed control remains one of the biggest and most complex challenges facing Australian growers,” said Tony May, Head of Crop Protection, Bayer Crop Science ANZ.

“Australian growers face increasing pressure from herbicide resistance, rising input costs and seasonal variability. Solutions like PreVision can help growers identify exactly where weeds are emerging and respond with greater precision, supporting better weed control today while helping preserve management options into the future.

“PreVision will help growers move from blanket treatment of paddocks to more targeted weed management, improving efficiency, reducing unnecessary inputs and supporting more sustainable farming systems.

“PreVision will also give advisors the ability to see more of what is happening in growers’ paddocks and act on it with greater accuracy, so their growers can get the most out of each and every paddock.

“The solution is designed to integrate with existing compatible spray equipment, helping growers access precision weed management without the need to invest in camera-based spot spray equipment or completely changing their current farming systems.”

Since 2020, Bayer and InFarm have been developing PreVision for in crop weed detection. Co-investment from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) has accelerated the development of this technology to accelerate its availability for farmers.

In this next phase of collaboration between Bayer and InFarm, they will bring in InFarm’s fallow weed detection system and scale PreVision in fallow nationally, while continuing to develop PreVision for in crop weed detection.

Today, InFarm’s fallow technology can detect weeds as small as three centimetres and generate tractor-ready prescription maps within 48 hours. InFarm has extensive experience using AI for weed detection in Australia, having conducted over 280,000 hectares of ‘Green-on-Brown’ aerial and agronomic analysis, all delivered with little to no cloud connectivity.

“Innovation in Australian agriculture needs to be built for Australian conditions and provide value to Australian growers,” Mr May said.

“By working with an Australian technology partner and testing this system in local cropping systems, we’re ensuring it is grounded in local agronomy and designed to deliver practical value for Australian growers and advisors.”

PreVision reflects a broader shift in agriculture toward more data-driven, site-specific farming systems, moving beyond uniform application to more targeted approaches that improve efficiency and long-term system resilience.

"We began with a simple challenge from an Australian grower who asked whether a drone could identify weeds across a paddock. Since then, we've developed a practical system that helps growers see what's happening in their paddocks to support more efficient crop protection practices," said Jerome Leray, InFarm Managing Director and Founder.

"Our focus has always been on building technology that works in real farming conditions. PreVision is designed to fit into existing farming systems and works with most equipment farmers already own, reducing the need for significant additional machinery investment.”

“By providing better visibility of weed pressure across paddocks, PreVision has the potential to support more strategic herbicide use and improved resistance management over time.

“The future of agriculture will rely on smarter, more targeted use of resources. We're excited to work alongside Bayer to help bring this capability to Australian growers and the industry."

Bayer and InFarm will work with selected partners to refine the ‘Green-on-Green’ solution to ensure it meets the industry’s needs, focusing on ensuring a simple, scalable grower experience supported by agronomic advice and local expertise.

PreVision is part of Bayer’s broader commitment to delivering innovation to Australian growers, combining global crop science expertise with Australian digital capability to address the real-world challenges facing farmers.

About PreVision

PreVision is a solution that uses drone imagery and artificial intelligence to identify weeds both in-fallow and in-crop and generates tractor-ready prescription maps. These maps can be uploaded into compatible spraying equipment and enables more targeted herbicide application based on weed presence within paddocks.

Designed to be equipment-agnostic, PreVision works with the majority of common sprayers already used on Australian farms. The system provides growers and advisors with additional insights, including weed distribution and density, to support more informed, paddock-specific decision-making.

The development of PreVision for in-crop weed detection will continue as a collaboration between Bayer, InFarm and GRDC.
