Looking back on the recently concluded Bayer Year of the Grower Promotion, the numbers are impressive; 365 days “live”, 1,000’s of entries, 100’s of participating stores, 2 draws and 10 lucky winners.

And as impressive as these numbers are, it really only tells half the story. The true value of the promotion is in seeing the happy faces of the winners and the connections made between the Bayer Commercial Sales Representatives, their distribution partners and ultimately the growers.

Bayer Marketing Communications & Customer Insights Manager, Adrian Smith looks back at his own experience of the promotion “I was one of the team involved from the outset of the Year of the Grower promotion and at the end it’s great to look back at the photo collage of the winners and see such happy faces, makes all the hard work worthwhile”.

The Year of the Grower promotion rewarded growers working in broadacre or horticulture with an entry into a draw for every $100 spent in a single transaction on Bayer crop protection products giving them the chance to win 1 of 10 brand new Polaris Rangers UTVs, valued at $16,500 each.

Across Australia, by the end of the promotion Bayer had given away the utility farm vehicles to such outlying places as Mingenew in Western Australia and Dimbulah in Far North Queensland. In fact, despite the large number of entries, luck would have it that two Polaris ended up in the same street just outside of the small Far North Queensland town!

Tabea Becker from Bayer explained, “It was a big ask of all involved to keep the promotion fresh for the full 12-months but we did see entries throughout the entire year, especially leading up to both draws. Also, a really big thanks from Bayer to the stores and growers, who despite challenging conditions, really got behind the promotion”.

Summing up the sentiments of the participating stores was Anthony Smyth of Landmark Mingenew, which, as the store where one of the winning products was purchased, also received a $1,000 EFTPOS Gift Card from Bayer. Anthony said, “We had the whole Ward family out to receive their Polaris, turned in to a bit of a community event. Smiling faces all round, couldn’t have happened to nicer people”.

And at the end of the day -when times are tough - that’s what it’s all about, putting a smile on people’s faces.
