With a national program of trials for a new cereal herbicide, Infinity Ultra, anticipated to be launched in 2023, and extension trials now underway for our recently launched herbicide, Mateno Complete, this year’s field trials will be showcasing a range of products in local agronomic situations across the country. Many fungicide and TruFlex canola trials will also be available for agronomists and growers to view.

This year there are over 180 trials established by our Market Development Team around Australia. There are 4 key launch or recently-launched products being trialed, with a focus on Infinity Ultra, a novel, soon-to-be launched, versatile post-emergence broadleaf weed herbicide, as well as extension trials for the recently-launched herbicide Mateno Complete, for grass and broadleaf weed control in both wheat and barley. Both of these powerful, versatile new herbicides are creating a lot of excitement among agronomists.

When discussing the 2022 program of work, Rick Horbury, Head of Market Development ANZ, commented, " We are excited to be showcasing Infinity Ultra’s reliability and versatility for broadleaf weed control as well as its crop safety due to its inbuilt crop safener. it is really important that we put Infinity Ultra to the test across a variety of broadleaf weeds in a range of locations and environments, so that agronomists and growers can be as confident as we are in its performance”.

Craig White, Market Development Agronomist in WA, and Bayer’s Leader for Integrated Weed Management in Australia said “Mateno Complete has seen an outstanding first year in the market in 2022, with many growers remarking on the exceptional levels of broadleaf and grass weed control that it has delivered, especially when used early-post-emergent, allowing long residual control as well as control of weeds in-furrow that have escaped a pre-emergent herbicide.

The best attack against the development of herbicide resistance is to use the most effective herbicides alongside non-herbicide tactics in an integrated weed management program, and Mateno Complete with its 3 powerful complementary active ingredients is proving to be a highly valuable weapon in that battle. We continue to extend our field trial work with Mateno Complete this year, to build further confidence in particular use patterns and on certain weed species.”

In addition to Mateno Complete and Infinity Ultra, this season’s trial program also includes trials highlighting the benefits of Aviator® Xpro® Fungicide and TruFlex® canola at various locations around the country.” Angus MacLennan, Market Development Broadacre Lead based in NSW, stated that “the last couple of seasons have presented many challenges for canola and cereals growers, with management of foliar diseases presenting important decisions for many. We continue to support growers with in-field demonstration trials, extending knowledge on how to get the best impact and ultimately the best return on investment from their fungicide program.”

Rick added "Our Market Development Team has established trials across a diverse range of sites across Australia to test and demonstrate the best agronomic fit of our new innovations to advisors and growers. It’s important to trial all products and traits extensively before launch, and to continue supporting them in the years after launch as well. When you buy a Bayer product you know that it has been extensively tested, and there is a breadth of knowledge behind it.

An application for the registration of Infinity Ultra has been made. At the time of publication Infinity Ultra is not a registered product.
